 11.00 Doing Well by Chandeep Uppal , directed by Rachel Creeger. 

Priya and Adie met when they were 11 years old on an underwhelming camping school trip and as they say ‘the rest is history’. Skip forward six years and they become an item. Since then they have embarked on a life that is a cocktail of a neurotic divorcee mother, a pitiable stepfather, a deluded father, an unschooled stepmother, an underworked brother and a spiteful mother in law to be. They live with Priya’s mother, stepfather and younger brother, which only amounts to no privacy and emotional chaos. After an awkward proposal Priya and Adie try to spread their happy news,only to find that that the mercy of the creature known as ‘The Parentzilla.”

 

12.00  Character by Florence Vincent with Kat Rogers and Elizabeth Hammond.

Michelle is about to turn thirty and is desperate to finish her first novel before the big day arrives. Retreating to a countryside cottage, typewriter in tow, Michelle invites her oldest friend Freya to join her and help get the book finished, only to find that Freya is harbouring problems of her own. Character is a dark comedy about two women trying to grow up and – in the process – keep their friendship afloat.

 

2.30 Playreading of "Velcro Bandages" by Liz Garland.

Terry is lonely. No one appreciates him. Nat is lonely. No one appreciates her. 
5 people, 2 families, 1 incident that crosses the line. 
Velcro Bandages asks the question 'who is to blame for the decisions we make?' Are our choices a result of how others treat us or is everything ultimately our responsibility. 

 

3- 4pm. Works in Progress 1

An hour of work in development with Rachel Halliwell, Ariella Eshed, Esther Shanson, Kitty Martin,Sara Hyde and Lesley Wilson

Carol Allen presents  an actors character development workshop, in this instance on the theme of "Women - and Men".   Creating characters through improvisation where the brief is women who have a man in their life who is creating some sort of challenge or conflict and men who have a problem with a particular woman or indeed women in general.   We then put various combinations of the characters together and see what emerges.   This would be initially a one off session with the possibility of developing the idea as a series inside the Actors Centre. This is a free workshop for both men and women.

40 minute play for one woman and one man.

A cop’s fiancé has been blown up by a bomb. She interrogates the bomber.

 

 

4.30-6pm Panel Discussion on Role Models for women.

Chaired by Sarah Berger this interactive panel will feature women from across the arts discussing the need for successful role models both in the indusrty and the world at large.

7pm: Théâtre Libre presents HERO A proud part of the Women in Arts Festival at the Tristan Bates Theatre/Actors Centre in association with So & So Arts Club written by - Laura Jernigan directed by - Kaitlin Argeaux movement by - Justyna Ziarekmusic by - Roi Erez and Simone Walsh.

We meet Hero and her Guide after Hero has saved the world from some terrible evil. The Guide can take Hero anywhere she wants to go, and Hero decides she wants to go home. On their journey they witness what has become of the world they have saved and meet many interesting people- including the remnants of the opposition forces Hero vanquished, who are looking for any desperate way to strike back.

It's not about saving the world, it's about changing it. 

 

 

8.20  "Win or Die"

“In the end I distilled everything to one wonderfully simple principle: win or die” (Dangerous Liaisons). Inspired by the Marquis de Meurteil’s infamous creed, ‘Win or Die: a woman’s odyssey through theatre’ presents some of the sharpest and boldest female characters in dramatic history. From Shakespeare to Mamet, this showcase observes women who employ sexuality as strategy in an all-consuming game of chess with consequences. Featuring Kate Milner Evans, Sevda Levent, and Rus Kallan. Directed by Jessica Ruano.

 

 

 

 

 

9.45 Merry Ross in "Whats my age again?"

Following her success at The NYC International Fringe Festival,and the San Francisco Fringe, Merry has come from Oakland California to present her one woman show.

In What’s My Age Again? Merry Ross travels through the unknown terrain of peri-menopause introducing  her grandmother, mother, and daughters through hilarious and poignant stories. With consummate skill and expertise, Merry walks the line between stand-up comedy and self-revelatory performance to explore this new life stage as she struggles to come to terms with the aging process. Comments for her performance included: “I can’t remember when I’ve laughed so hard!” “As a woman approaching menopause, I felt like you were talking to me.” "I wish you could have just kept going—I didn't want it to end."
